Testissä: Apple Watch (tai iWatch, mikä onkaan)

 Tuossa kalenterissa lukee "Vesterinen sinkku" koska tätä kirjoitettaessa huomenna ilmestyy Vesterinen Yhtyeineen -yhtyeen sinkku jota en halua unohtaa. En siis mieti onko joku Vesterinen sinkku.


Tein silein tyhmästi että ostin Apple Watchin.

No ei vaan.

Mutta kuitenkin tavallaan tyhmästi, sillä Apple Watchin tullessa markkinoille tuhahtelin sille (vähän kuin iPadille aikoinaan). Kun nyt olen käyttänyt Apple Watchia kuukauden päivät, tuhahtelen sille edelleen hieman, samoista syistä, mutta syy miksi hankin sen on edelleen kestävä.

Juuh elikkäs. Hankin Apple Watchin, koska halusin laitteen joka mittaa sykettä ranteesta, ja joka osaa keskustella Runkeeperin tai hätätapauksessa Sports Trackerin kanssa.

Minulla on entuudestaan Suunto M5 sykevyöllä (arvioni laitteesta täällä), mutta siitä on ollut nyt yli vuoden ranneke poikki enkä ole jaksanut korjata sitä, koska sykemittaus rinnanympäri väsyttää. Halusin laitteen, joka on aina mukana, ja joka ei tarvitse mitään kenkään tai rinnan ympäri kiinnitettäviä apuvälineitä.

Olen lukenut Verkkokauppa.comin arvioita ja netistä löytyneitä satunnaisia keskusteluja muutaman kuukauden ajan varsin intensiivisesti, ostohimon valtaamana. Kartoitukseni tulos oli, että ranteesta sykkeen mittaaminen ei ole kovin luotettavaa, mutta tunnetut urheilukellovalmistajat ovat melkein kaikki tuoneet markkinoille mallin joka tähän pystyy.

Vertailuni tulos oli kuitenkin se, että jos haluaisin edes jossain määrin luotettavahkon sykemittauksen ja käytettävyyden, minun pitäisi maksaa vähintään 400€, ja silloinkin saisin "vain" urheilukellon, joka on täytetty ominaisuuksilla joita minä en tarvitse - ja jotka eivät lisäksi osaa suoraan keskustella Runkeeperin kanssa.

Vähän yllättäenkin siis tajusin, että Apple Watch - tuhahteluni ja naureskeluni kohde Apple Watch - on kätevin vaihtoehto, jos haluan mitata sykkeen ranteesta, ja minulle riittää juoksusta Runkeeperin ilmaisversion (josta tietenkin on Apple Watch -app) tarjoama data. Verkkokauppa.comista 369€ perusmalli sporttirannekkeella, kaupat tuli.

Runkeeperin AW-sovellus toimii todella jouhevasti, vaikka välillä käynnistettäessä miettiikin hetken. Tätä tapahtuu muidenkin sovellusten kohdalla - ilmeisesti kellon prosessoriteho yksinkertaisesti yskii. Juoksun aikana yskimistä ei kuitenkaan tapahdu.

Käytäntö on opettanut, että juoksun ajaksi asetus siitä, että kellon näyttö herää rannetta nostettaessa on otettava pois, samoin on asetettava näyttö palaamaan herätessä siihen sovellukseen, jossa oli, ei aloitusnäyttöön. Jos näin ei tee, juoksuvaatteet katkaisevat juoksun, eikä navigointi aloitusnäytöstä pienen pienten kuvakkeiden kautta takaisin Runkeeperiin ole kesken lenkin herkkua sekään.



Sykemittaus tuntuu jokseenkin toimivalta, mutta varmaankin todellisuudessa hieman suurpiirteiseltä. Eli jos olet millintarkoilla sykkeillä pelaava tosiharjoittelija, sinun kannattaa edelleenkin mitata syke rinnan ympäri kiinnitettävästä laitteesta. Apple Watch mittaa sykkeen ranteen päältä led-valojen(?) avulla, ja mittausta ei tehdä juostessakaan joka sekunti, vaan harvemmin.

Joskus juostessa tuntuu, että syke on jämähtänyt samoihin lukemiin, mutta jos kiihdyttää vauhtia niin syke kyllä nousee. Suunnon rinnanympärysmittari tuntui joskus antavan liian korkeita lukemia, mutta Apple Watchilla sykettä on vaikea saada yli 170:n. Ehkä vanhenen, ehkä vedoissa ei ole potkua, tai ehkä mittaus on vähän laiska. Joka tapauksessa sanoisin, että lepsustikin mitatun sykkeen näkeminen ranteesta koko lenkin ajan on ainakin minulle hyödyllinen ominaisuus, että maltan pitää sykkeen tarpeeksi alhaalla. Tai toisaalta nostaa sitä silloin kun harjoittelen kovempaa.

Kuvassa lyhyen rennon lenkin syke. Lopussa otin ihan pienen spurtin, muuten olin vain väsynyt. Mutta ihan realistiselta tuo käyrä vaikuttaa, eikö?


Vinkkinä, että sykkeen saa talteen Runkeeperiin jahka muistaa startata, stopata ja tallentaa lenkki Apple Watchin, ei iPhone-sovelluksen kautta.

Entäs ne muut ominaisuudet? Ne joille tuhahtelin?

Oikeastaan ainoita hyödyllisiksi kokemiani ominaisuuksia ovat (kellonajan lisäksi...) hyvä sääsovellus, seuraavan kalenterimerkinnän pikanäkymä ja haluttujen ilmoitusten (esimerkiksi sähköpostien otsikot, WhatsApp-viestit, Telegram-viestit jne, Messenger- tai mitään someilmoituksia en kelloon halua, vaikka nekin sinne saa) pikavilkaisu.

Siis minulla arkielämässä ihan oikeasti on tilanteita, että puhelin on jossain lähettyvillä, mutta vilkaisen mielummin vienosti tärähtävästä kellosta mitä tapahtuu. Kätevää vaikkapa palaverissa (no, onko kellon vilkuilu toisaalta kohteliaampaa kuin kännykän) tai kun on koirien kanssa lenkillä (puhelin on taskussa, voi vilkaista otsikosta pitääkö sähköposti heittää suoraan roskiin vai ehkä reagoida myöhemmin).

Aktiivisuuden mittaus on ihan toimiva ominaisuus, varsinkin kun olen tilastoista lämpeävä yksilö. Tekee mieli liikkua mittarit täyteen joka päivä, ja se on keski-iän lähestyessä hyödyllistä jos ei halua paisua ihan puteksi. Mittari tosin reagoi vain jalan liikkumiseen (ehkä pyöräilyynkin jos sitä tekisi enemmän hikiliikuntana), ja päivän "aktiivisuus" kaloreina mitattuna tarkoittaa liikunnasta tulevia kaloreita, ei kokonaiskulutusta.

Kameran kauko-ohjaus on toki myös hauska, pro-tason selfiemenoon. Lapsi saa siitä myös loputtomasti huvia kun voi "vakoilla äiskää".

Kelloon voi valita kattavan määrän erilaisia näyttöjä ja ladata lisää jos valmiit eivät kelpaa. Itse käytän tuolla yläkuvassa näkyvää setuppia, ja ladattavia lisänäyttöjä en ole edes selaillut. Nuo tuossa näkyvän näytön komponentit saa itse valita. Minulla siis päivämäärä, kellonaika (d'oh), seuraava kalenterimerkintä, sää, päivän aktiivisuus ja akku.

Mutta siis: Eihän tuon kellon omistaminen IHAN välttämättömältä tunnu, varsinkaan jos ei käytä sitä juoksun mittaamiseen tai aktiivisuuden tarkkailuun. Kyllä ne kännykän ilmoitukset voi katsoa ihan kännykän ruudulta myös, eikä tuolla jaksa hullukaan äänittää mitään vastausviestejä WhatsAppiin kun kellon pieni prosessoriparka huutaa armoa ja latausikoni pyörii. Bluetooth tietenkin vie kännykästä akkua myös.

Kuitenkin varsin kohtuuhintaisesti sain hienon kellon, joka on vieläpä urheilukello ja jossa on bonuksena kaikkea ihmeellistä höpöä, että jos asiaa katsoo siitä näkökulmasta niin kyllä minä ihan tyytyväinen olen. Enkä tietenkään enää 3 viikon käytön jälkeen osaisi olla ilmankaan.
